The Spirit arrived. As promised. And he brought the full presence and power of God to each individual disciple, and empowered them to speak in the languages of the gathered peoples on Pentecost. To this very day, the Holy Spirit continues to descend upon every disciple, filling us with the presence and power of God to declare the risen Christ to the ends of the earth. Luke writes this passage in order that Theophilus, and all his readers, will understand the necessity of the indwelling Holy Spirit, who fills God’s people with power, to carry out the mission of God in evangelism and advancing his Kingdom.
