The risen Jesus installed his disciples as witnesses of his Kingdom, as seen through his word and work, in order to send them to the very ends of the earth. In our own day, the risen Jesus continues to install all disciples as witnesses of his Kingdom, sent to the very ends of the earth. All baptized into the baptism of Jesus are baptized into the Spirit and commissioned and empowered for mission. Luke wrote this passage in order to establish every disciple in the primary mission of witnessing to the word and work of Jesus to the very ends of the earth.
