Building Your Life Upon the Rock (Matthew 7:13-29)

Building Your Life Upon the Rock (Matthew 7:13-29)

Jesus Christ is the only sure foundation for life. And those who enter by the narrow gate build their life upon that rock. And building one’s life upon Jesus Christ means nothing less than acting in obedience to his word.

Matthew 7:24-25 Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.  25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.

26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.  27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

In certain regions, desert sand forms a hard crust which appears to be solid rock, and even provides sure footing, even for the foundation of a house. But when the seasonal rains fall and form a flash flood, they reveal the true nature of the foundation; unstable and violently carried away in the torrent.

A person might hide their deficient righteousness for a time, but make no mistake, those who walk by the light of their own lamps and build a foundation for life wherever they please, will inevitably reveal their true character upon close and sustained inspection.

Those who build their life upon Jesus will find a flourishing righteousness that far exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees.
